Instructors can copy activities, flows and parts of flows from one course to another. To do this, you can use the copy button located to the right of the blue "+ Add new" button.

How to copy flows & activities from other courses

  1. Click on the copy button on the bottom of the left side menu.

  2. Choose the course you want to copy activities from.

  3. Select the activities and/or flows you wish to copy.

  4. Click Copy in the top right corner of the context menu.

Learner data will not duplicate when you copy activities or flows to a new course. Most activity settings will copy to the new course, with the exception of subset settings or any settings that rely on other activities that aren't copied at the same time to the new course.

Common questions about copying activities and flows

πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ If I copy an activity and make changes to the original, will the changes appear in the copied activity as well?

No - the copied version will not automatically change.

πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ What happens to sources for review or feedback reflection activities?

The result depends on whether you copy both the thing that points to a source and the source itself. Assume you have two activities A and B in a course where A is a source for B.

  • If you copy both activities into a new course at the same time, then the two activities will also be connected with a source relation in the new course, so A will still be a source for B.

  • If you copy activity A into a new course, but not activity B, then nothing in the new course will use the new activity A as a source.

  • If you copy activity B into a new course, but not activity A, then the new activity B will not have any source in the new course (and you'll need to give B a source to make the activity valid).

πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ What happens to prerequisites when copying activities between courses?

The result depends on whether you copy both the thing that points to a prerequisite and the prerequisite itself. Assume you have two activities A and B in a course where A is a prerequisite for B.

  • If you copy both activities into a new course at the same time, then the two activities will also be connected with the same prerequisite relation in the new course.

  • If you copy just activity A into a new course, then the new activity A will no longer be a prerequisite for any activities in the new course.

  • If you copy just activity B into a new course, then the new activity B will not have any prerequisites in the new course.

πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ What happens to deadlines when copying activities between courses?

Any opening dates or deadlines will stay the same when copied to a new course.

πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ What happens to subsets when copying activities between courses?

Any subset settings will not be copied to the new course. If you want to copy subset settings, including tags, then you can copy the entire course instead.

Note: It is not possible to copy a Grade Passback activity between courses.
