Common questions

🙋‍♀️ If I copy something from course A to course B, and it then changes in course A, will it also change automatically in course B?

No. The copied version will not change if its origin changes.

🙋‍♀️ What happens to sources when copying activities between courses?

The result depends on whether you copy both the thing that points to a source and the source itself.

Case 1: You have two activities A and B in the origin course where A is a source for B. You copy both activities into a new course at the same time. In this case, the two activities will also be connected with a source relation in the new course.

Case 2: You have two activities A and B in the origin course where A is a source for B. You copy just A into a new course. In this case, nothing in the new course will point to A as a source.

Case 3: You have two activities A and B in the origin course where A is a source for B. You copy just B into a new course. In this case, the new version of B will not have any source in the new course.

🙋‍♀️ What happens to prerequisites when copying activities between courses?

The result depends on whether you copy both the thing that points to a prerequisite and the prerequisite itself.

Case 1: You have two activities A and B in the origin course where A is a prerequisite for B. You copy both activities into a new course at the same time. In this case, the two activities will also be connected with a prerequisite relation in the new course.

Case 2: You have two activities A and B in the origin course where A is a prerequisite for B. You copy just A into a new course. In this case, nothing in the new course will point to A as a prerequisite.

Case 3: You have two activities A and B in the origin course where A is a prerequisite for B. You copy just B into a new course. In this case, the new version of B will not have any prerequisites in the new course.

🙋‍♀️ What happens to deadlines when copying activities between courses?

The deadlines will stay the same when copied.

🙋‍♀️ What happens to subsets when copying activities between courses?

The subset settings will not be copied to the new course. If you need to copy activities including subsets you can copy the entire course, and then work from that. The reason is that subsets depend on student and tags in the course, and those are not copied when copying individual activities and flows.
